for

Professional achievement while serving as an interpreter for the HUMINT Exploitation Team (HET), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), I Marine Expeditionary Force from 29 March 2003 to 26 April 2003. Sergeant Pedersen's mastery of a critical low density language, in-depth knowledge of regional culture and understanding of intelligence requirements allowed him to skillfully employ his talents as HET's interpreter during Operation Iraqi Freedom. During combat operations, Sergeant Pedersen directly supported Maritime Special Purpose Force raid missions, daily HUMINT patrols, and force protection requirements of the MEU. His efforts had a direct impact on providing actionable intelligence information that resulted in the capture of enemy Iraqi forces. Sergeant Pedersen demonstrated noteworthy leadership, initiative, and attention to detail by providing time-sensitive information to the entire Marine Air-Ground Task Force. Sergeant Pedersen's initiative, perseverance, and total dedication to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

"BEST OF SCULPTURE"

Bryan won "Best of Sculpture" with his oversized pocket knife at the Arapahoe Community College Art Show. His sculpture greeted attendees at the front door. Here he is pictured with one of his art teachers. The drawing on the wall to the left of Bryan is another one of his works.

Michelle Rides Kiss Over Cougar Rock

Michelle Pedersen riding Kiss in the Tevis Cup 2001. The Tevis is the world's most difficult endurance race - 100 miles in 24 hours. 225 riders started, 91 completed & Michelle was #41. The race goes from Lake Tahoe to Auburn, California.

For exemplary performance of duties while serving as an Arabic Linguist for the Command Element, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (SOC) while deployed with Commander, United States FIFTH Fleet from May to July 2001 in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH. You consistently displayed exceptional initiative, dedication, and attention to detail in the execution of your duties. Your translation skills in support of Exercises EAGER MACE and RED REEF contributed to the MEU missions ashore. In addition, your work on the Special Purpose Radio Communications Network earned you praise from both Navy and Marine supervisors aboard USS BOXER (LHD4) and helped maintain effective communications between all cryptologic platforms in the FIFTH Fleet Area of Operations. Your efforts assisted the Radio Battalion detachment in their mission of providing indications, warnings, and force protection intelligence to the MEU operating ashore during this period. These efforts helped you earn selection as the Marine of the Quarter for the Command Element. Your distinctive performance reflects credit upon yourself, your command, the United States Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
